Legendary Capability: 2018 Jeep Cherokee SUV
The legendary Cherokee nameplate was welcomed back into the Jeep model line back in 2014. The all-new Jeep Cherokee completely redefines the mid-size SUV segment, delivering legendary Jeep 4x4 capability, improved fuel economy superior on-road ride and handling, revolutionary exterior design, and class-exclusive technology.
For 2018, Jeep Cherokee has realigned the trim levels to Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, Overland and Trailhawk. As the base trim level, Latitude includes premium standard features such as: 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps and high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, roof rails, rear back up camera, bright daylight opening (DLO) moldings as well as body-color mirrors and door handles.
The addition of Latitude Plus adds popular features as standard: 8.4-inch Uconnect radio with color touch screen, SiriusXM Radio, Passive Entry/Keyless Go, cloth seats with leather inserts, leather steering wheel with audio controls, eight-way power driver seat with power four-way lumbar support, ambient lighting, 115-volt AC outlet at the back of console and 17-inch aluminum wheels with a unique finish. The Cherokee Trailhawk also adds new standard features this year, which includes a suite of safety features as well as Dual-zone/Automatic Temperature Control. The Cherokee Limited now features standard safety features as well as a power liftgate.
Standard power is provided by a 2.4L Tigershark MultiAir 2 four-cylinder engine. A 3.2L Pentastar V-6 engine is an available option. Torque for both engines is communicated to the ground through the automaker’s 948TE nine-speed automatic transmission. The Cherokee provides a choice of three innovative 4x4 systems for best-in-class 4x4 capability in all weather conditions. The mid-size Jeep SUV features rear-axle disconnect, resulting in reduced energy loss when 4x4 capability isn’t needed, improving fuel efficiency.
The Cherokee rides on FIAT Group’s Compact U.S. Wide platform. The Cherokee’s body structure has a high-strength steel content of roughly 65 percent. Hot stamped-, high-strength- and ultra-high-strength steel are used to construct a strong, lightweight, solid vehicle architecture. Control hardware consists of a front independent suspension with MacPherson struts and a rear independent multi-link suspension. The front suspension provides 6.7 inches of travel while the rear suspension provides up to 7.8 inches of travel for better articulation.
Inside the passenger cabin is modern, inviting and comfortable. A sophisticated, refined design, hand-sculpted forms, signature Jeep design cues, high-quality materials, precision craftsmanship and attention-to-detail raise the bar. The easy-to-use instrument cluster displays the basic information a driver needs at his or her fingertips but also allows the driver to add information they desire, similar to an iPhone. The 60/40 split second-row seats adjust fore and aft for increased passenger comfort and cargo flexibility.
